The actor James Franco will have a new role in his career, as he will play the late former Cuban leader Fidel Castro for the film Aline from Cuba.

The film follows the story of Alina Fernández, whose birth was the result of an attempt between Natalia “Naty” Revuelta and Castro. Revuelta sacrificed her personal belongings and her husband’s finances and her doctor to help finance the start of the communist revolution. Fernández learned that she was the daughter of Fidel Castro at the age of 10 when after years of secret visits to her home, her mother finally revealed that “El Comandante” was her biological father.

Alina became one of the most outspoken critics of Castro, arrested on more than one occasion for trying to leave, and was classified as a dissident who was banned from traveling. outside Cuba. She finally defected to Spain in 1993, an event that drew headlines from every major news network around the world, before making Miami her permanent home.

The secondary cast is completed by Alanna de la Rosa, María Cecilia Botero (Charm), Harding Junior and the actors of Cuban origin Sian Chiong and Rafael Ernesto Hernández.

The film is being shot entirely on location in and around Cartagena and Bogotá, with the Spanish colonial architecture and design of Colombia playing for Castro-era Havana, Cuba. The cameras roll on August 15.
