A breakdown in a catenary causes significant delays in several Rodalies lines

A fault in the catenary between Sant Vicenç de Calders and Vilanova y la Geltrú, to the south of Barcelona, forces trains to circulate on a single track on this section this Friday morning from the start of the service. The failure, together with an incident in the signaling system, limits the operational capacity and affects the R2 south and Regional trains on the south corridor. Renfe has rescheduled the R2 sur Vilanova-Barcelona service to limit the impact.

It all started with the trains

The trains start and end the service in Vilanova, thus maintaining the frequency between this town and Barcelona. Between Vilanova and Sant Vicenç, the Regionals of the southern corridor stop at all stations. The incident causes delays that can exceed 30 and even 60 minutes in R2, R2 South, R13, R14, R15, R16 and R17.

Renfe is managing a complementary road service between Vilanova and Sant Vicenç de Calders. Adif technicians are working to resolve the incident.

On the other hand, on line R4, a failure in the signaling system between Martorell and Sant Sadurní d’Anoia causes delays that can exceed 15 minutes. The incidence is already solved but the service still registers affectations.

These breakdowns are added to the constant delays in the service and occur a week after the macro incident that paralyzed the circulation of the entire Cercanías train network due to a failure in the telecommunications system, with some 80,000 passengers affected, last Friday. It also affected regional and long-distance trains that run on conventional tracks in Catalonia.

This month, subscriptions for public transport have been launched, which allow the Rodalies and Regionales service to be free for regular users.
