In a morning interview with the media, Batlle explained that the Mossos d’Esquadra are investigating the fatal attack on a 41-year-old man on Lleida street, near Montjuic. “He has been stabbed by two people who have escaped,” Batlle said without adding further details.

The other “important” attack of the night was the “attempted murder of a homeless woman” on Drassanes Avenue, in the center of the city, added Batlle. Unidentified assailants threw flammable liquid at a woman causing injuries to her face. The victim was able to go to the health services on her own feet and, despite the injuries, the health workers ruled out that her life was in danger.

In l’Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona) a man has died in a fire in his flat. The events took place around half past ten at night in a house on Montseny street, which has been completely burned. The rest of the flats in the block have not been affected. The Mossos d’Esquadra Investigation Unit has taken charge of the case to find out the causes of the fire.

More than 600 actions by firefighters in Catalonia

The Secretary General of the Interior, Oriol Amorós, has assured this Friday that the verbena has had “few incidents” and has thanked the general behavior of the citizens. In an interview with RAC1, Amorós explained that it was a night “of a lot of work and few incidents”. The 112 emergency telephone number has received 5,600 notifications, which represents 7% more than last year.

Of the calls received, 2,900 have been related to fires in urban containers due to uncivil acts or small fires of vegetation on public roads. “There have been no major situations caused by the verbena”, Amorós highlighted. Until 8 am this Friday, the Fire Department has received 900 notices, of which 663 have resulted in actions.

Amorós has added that last night there have been two fires that have nothing to do with the verbena and a third that the police investigation will have to determine. These are two industrial fires in Palafolls (Maresme) and in Garrotxa and the deadly fire in l’Hospitalet de Llobregat that the Mossos d’Esquadra are investigating.
