A man arrested for killing his partner in Lleida

The Mossos d’Esquadra have arrested a 40-year-old man on Friday as the alleged perpetrator of the death of his partner in Lleida, as reported by the Catalan police in a statement.

The events occurred around 1:30 p.m., when the Catalan police located the lifeless body of a woman at a home in the Balàfia neighborhood of Lleida. Just a few minutes later, Mossos agents have located and arrested the man as the alleged perpetrator of the sexist crime.

The body has been located in the storage room that the family used in the same building where they live. The woman, who had four children, was a victim of sexist violence and her husband had a previous complaint for abuse.

The Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) has explained that in 2019 the victim denounced her murderer and obtained a protection order that was in force until the trial was held on February 14, 2020. After the hearing, the defendant was left acquitted. The victim did not provide a statement and since there were no other supporting elements, the accusations fell.

The criminal investigation division of the Mossos d’Esquadra in Lleida has taken over the investigation to clarify the causes of the crime.

With the confirmation of this case, the number of women murdered by gender violence in Spain rises to 42 so far this year, six of them in Catalonia, and 1,174 since 2003 when data began to be collected.
