The Mossos d’Esquadra announced this morning the arrest on September 13 of the alleged perpetrator of five sexual assaults against women, committed since July 5. The aggressor grabbed the victims by the neck, strangling them in order to carry out the rape.
According to the ACN, four of the attacks occurred in L’Hospitalet and a fifth in the Sants-Montjuïc district. The ‘modus operandi’ was always similar. He performed at night, mainly on weekends. He chose young girls, followed them, and entered their doorways just as the victims did, before the door closed.
Once there, he would approach them, violently strangle them and verbally threaten them to commit sexual assault. In some cases, and as a consequence of the resistance offered by the victims, the detainee was unable to carry out the sexual assault.
The researchers established the line of work considering that the perimeter of the actions was very limited, which is why the main hypothesis of the investigation was that the author resided or worked in the area.
A fraudulent banking operation focused the investigation on a 26-year-old man of Peruvian nationality. Subsequently, the investigators were able to fully identify him and obtain sufficient evidence to be able to attribute the five events to him.
On the 13th the agents located the investigated man in l’Hospitalet de Llobregat in one of the homes where it was considered that he could have his residence, in an area very close to the place where the events had occurred.
The investigation remains open since it is not ruled out that indications are obtained that allow to prove the participation of the detainee in other attacks in previous years. The detainee, who has no previous record, passed this Thursday at the disposal of the Court of Instruction number 2 of l’Hospitalet, which decreed the admission to prison.
