A student has died this Wednesday in a shooting at an institute in the town of Winston-Salem, in North Carolina, in the United States, local authorities have informed in a press conference.
The main suspect, who he is believed to be a student from the same center, he was arrested by the local police “without incident” around 6:00 pm (local time), as announced by the local Police Department on the social network Twitter.
So far no details have emerged about the motive for the crime or how the incident occurred.
The authorities went to the institute shortly after 12 noon (local time), where they found a student with a gunshot wound. The victim was rushed to a hospital in the area, where he died shortly after.
Although the Winston-Salem Police ordered the closure of numerous schools in the area in the wake of the incident, there have been no further incidents. “Schools were ordered to be blocked to be extremely cautious,” the Police Department clarified.
The Governor of the state of North Carolina, Roy Cooper, has assured, in relation to the event, that the authorities must “work to ensure the safety of teachers and students, (…) and that weapons are kept out of the way. schools, ”in a statement circulated shortly after the incident.
According to the US gun violence prevention group Everytown, there have been 43 firearm incidents so far in 2021 in schools across the country, in which twelve people have died.
