Although the announcement had not been made official, everything indicated that the mayor would repeat her mandate, especially since the consultation that took place last Saturday with the party’s bases, which already endorsed that she could run for a third term.

Ada Colau continues to be the biggest electoral asset of the ‘Comuns’ and this was verified with the result of the consultation, which was settled with 211 votes in favor of the renewal of the mayor and only one abstention.

The approval of the bases for Colau to run for a third term was a mandatory step, according to party rules, since the code of ethics establishes that elected officials can only serve two terms, and only allows the exception of a third party if the militancy so decides.

In the plenary held in the Free Zone, without the presence of Colau, the Minister of Universities, Joan Subirats, indicated that the mayor has “a clear horizon” for the Catalan capital and that the comuns are in a “good position” to return to win. “There is no political force capable of presenting an alternative model”, he has settled.

Colau had not spoken on the subject until now and, in fact, he had already advanced that he would make his final decision during this month of May, one year before the elections, aware that his decision would speed up the electoral race.
