AirPods vs. AirPods Pro: face to face | Digital Trends Spanish

With the release of the third generation of Apple headphones, including a major upgrade, both the Classic and Pro models are an excellent choice in this age of digital communication. Classic AirPods got a major update with the $ 179 AirPods 3, which carry Spatial Audio and Adaptive EQ to the traditional lineup, while the $ 249 Pro’s feature Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and other upgrades.

Apple’s AirPods start at $ 129 for the AirPods 2 (Apple no longer sells first-generation AirPods), and that goes up to $ 179 for the AirPods 3, which is a significant upgrade.

The AirPods Pro, on the other hand, cost $ 249, the same price as the Powerbeats Pro. Then there are the replacement costs associated with each, in case something is broken or lost.

Replacing just one of the AirPods will cost $ 69, while the AirPods Pro will cost you $ 89 each. Even the charging case is more expensive, costing $ 69 for the AirPods and $ 89 for the AirPods Pro, both wireless cases.

There are many reasons for the high price of the AirPods Pro, but there is no doubt that if you are looking for the most wallet-friendly way, you will buy the second generation AirPods or maybe you will go for the AirPods 3, which are kind of compromise between AirPods and AirPods Pro.

Ever since Apple introduced the original AirPods, consumers and critics alike have lamented the fact that they can’t officially deal with sweat or rain. Finally, that changed with the AirPods 3, which come with IP4X water resistance.

This is the same resistance rating as the AirPods Pro. It means you don’t have to worry about wearing them in the rain or sweating. However, they are not yet waterproof. You certainly can’t swim or shower with them, and even cleaning them needs to be done carefully.

Sound quality

The AirPods Pro have excellent sound, especially when compared to the AirPods 2. The AirPods 3 change this comparison a bit because they have vastly improved audio quality and are compatible with Spatial Audio and Adaptive EQAlthough they don’t offer noise cancellation and can’t quite reach the audio heights of the Pro.

Therefore, the AirPods Pro are an easy option over the previous versions of the AirPods. While the AirPods 3 have much closer sound quality to the Pro, they don’t have the same passive or active noise cancellation that the Pro can offer, putting the AirPods Pro on the edge.

Winner: AirPods Pro

Noise Cancellation

The Pro are the first AirPods to offer Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), a feature that is becoming more common among smartphones. best wireless headphones on the market. The technology uses a combination of microphones and software to analyze outside noise and effectively cancels it out using equal and opposite frequencies.

Additionally, the headphones offer three noise-canceling settings: on, off, and something called Transparency Mode, which allows the microphones to let in some outside sound, so you can hear what’s going on around you.

AirPods, including AirPods 3, have no active noise cancellation at all. This is simply a category that they cannot compete in.

Now, let’s talk about passive noise cancellation. Again, it’s hard for non-regular AirPods to compete here. Passive noise cancellation is basically noise that is kept out due to the seal the earpiece makes in your ear.

The AirPods universal fit may be adequate to block out some sounds for some users, but if noise cancellation, passive or active, is an important feature for you, the AirPods Pro offer three sizes of ear plugs for you to choose from.

Fit and comfort

It wasn’t by mistake that Apple’s original iPod headphones became so popular (and iconic), after all, their unique design was perfectly suited to most people. For many, however, the fit had been poor.

Its hard plastic could become uncomfortable after hours of long use, and how easily they stay in your ears can be unpredictable (like fingerprints, everyone’s ears are a bit unique).

The AirPods 3 updated the design for a rounder, fuller fit designed to help deal with some of these issues. The AirPods Pro addressed this problem with a redesign that includes customizable silicone tips, allowing the earbuds to fit a wide range of ear shapes.

The tips allow for a better seal (see passive noise cancellation above) and greater comfort, especially when worn for longer periods of time. The snug fit also ensures that the earbuds stay in place, even during the most rigorous training.

The Pro also feature a unique ventilation system that helps reduce that feeling of pressure inside the ear, which is often associated with airtight earbuds. Vents on the outside of each earbud equalize that pressure for added comfort.

If you’re not sure which tip size is best for you, Apple thought about that too. With the microphones and speaker drivers for each earbud, as well as the Ear Tip Fit Test app, you can measure sound levels to help determine if you are getting the best fit or if you should try a different size.

Winner: AirPods Pro

Battery duration

The AirPods Pro are successful when it comes to battery life – Active noise cancellation really does consume power, and the latest versions have yet to improve on this number at all.

If you keep ANC on, you only get 4.5 hours of continuous playback. Recent rivals, such as the stellar Sony’s WF-1000XM3, offering 6 hours of noise-canceling operation (8 hours without), are raising the bar.

The AirPods 3, on the other hand, represent a huge battery improvement over previous models, with six hours per charge and 30 hours total time with a fully charged case.

Call quality

It’s rare to be on a Zoom call these days without seeing many participants sporting Apple’s iconic AirPods. When it comes to call quality, AirPods are known to perform well, with the latest generation getting noise reduction updates and improvements when it comes to handling the wind.

Compared to the AirPods Pro, the call quality is quite close, with perhaps a small advantage for the Pro. But, where the Pro really does take a significant advantage is in its sound-isolating design.

Not only does the tighter seal allow you to hear calls better, the microphones on each earbud work with voice detection to reduce background noise and better capture your voice. Its ventilation system helps reduce wind noise for even quieter calls.

Note that the AirPods 3 have additional touch gesture controls that allow further customization when changing modes, for example, this feature was had by the previous AirPods, although not at the level of the AirPods Pro.

Winner: AirPods Pro

Charging case

With a more rectangular shape, but a smaller overall size, the AirPods Pro Wireless Charging Case is easier to pocket than the charging case on older AirPods. The lid opens at the wide end, but is just as easy to open with one hand once you get used to the new shape.

The AirPods 3 updated the charging case with a new design that is much more similar to the AirPods Pro, enough that you have trouble telling them apart at a glance. Both also support wireless charging, including MagSafe charging options used by the latest Apple chargers.

The AirPods Pro are the latest and greatest in headphone technology, although you should pay around $ 100 more for all of their features. However, we think the expense pays off on innovative features like active noise cancellation and superior sound.

With improved sound quality, you get better call quality, but the AirPods Pro updates don’t stop there. They also fit better and feel more comfortable thanks to their customizable silicone tips.

The AirPods 3 made many improvements to the formula of the previous AirPods, bringing them much closer together. There’s a reason we called the AirPods 3 the “missing link between the original AirPods and the AirPods Pro” in our review.

They are a huge step beyond the previous versions of the AirPods. However, they still lack some of the Pro’s features, especially noise cancellation.
