The now conglomerate TelevisaUnivision presents its great commitment to video streaming, which seeks to conquer the Spanish-speaking audience with content in Spanish and original productions of all kinds. In this sense, we tell you all about ViX and ViX+.

The recently formed merger of Televisa and Univision announced, in February 2022, its most serious bet in the video streaming segment, which prioritizes content in Spanish and two levels: ViX (free) and ViX+ (subscription), in addition to looking for the Spanish-speaking segment as an audience.
“With the content and capacity of TelevisaUnivision, we are perfectly positioned to offer a revolutionary streaming service to the almost 600 million Spanish-speakers around the world. It will be the first time that our global audience will have a high-quality streaming experience that provides a huge variety of world-class entertainment, sports and news, produced in Spanish and for Spanish speakers,” said Wade Davis, the head of the conglomerate.
Between the two levels, the goal is to have more than 50,000 hours of free and paid material in your first year alone.
“Our mission will be to offer more original content in Spanish than all other streaming platforms,” said Pierluigi Gazzolo, president of TelevisaUnivision.
This modality requires the payment of a subscription (Subscription Video on Demand) in order to access the original content, which will be made up of new Mexican films, live soccer from different Latin American leagues and Champions League matches (the latter only for the United States), confrontations of the Mexican National Team (only Mexico) and series made in collaboration with internationally renowned producers.
In its first year, the purpose is to have more than 10,000 hours of “stories” and release more than 50 films and series of its own, all directly to the screen, without going through the movie theater. This means a new original every week.
“ViX+ will include exclusive productions developed by some of the best creators and narrators in Spanish,” TelevisaUnivision stated. Among these are Salma Hayek’s Ventanarosa Productions; 3Pas Studios, the company of Eugenio Derbez and Ben Odell; personalities from culture and entertainment such as María Dueñas and Selena Gómez, and agreements with Marios Vargas Llosa, Santiago Limón and Ben Silverman.
Some of the titles of the series that are already known are: my neighbor the poster (Selena Gomez), Nautilus (Colombia and Spain), the marked time (new version of the proposal of the 80), The pelotaris (Provisional title), High tide (directed by Roger Anton), The artists (Owners), bad girl pranks (adapted from the novel by Vargas Llosa) and fucking mummies (Lemon).
In sports documentary series stand out the blood and the glory (real life sports crimes), Brazil 2002, the real story (20th anniversary of the country’s soccer world championship) and to the war cry (Analyzes the curse of the “fifth game” of the Mexican National Team).
Although here people will not have to pay any subscription, they will see advertising between the contents (Advertising Video on Demand). Among the numbers that stand out are 40,000 hours of material and more than 100 television channels, in which news, live sports and entertainment material are included.
“ViX will offer Televisa’s classic soap operas and mega-hits, partnerships with some of the best producers in the world, from Colombia to Turkey, scripted and unscripted series, and Hollywood, independent and Latin American blockbusters, all in Spanish and with fewer ads than traditional television”, stated TelevisaUnivision.
Regarding information of interest, we can mention Univision News 24/7, the new streaming channel of Noticieros Televisa and Zona TUDN, which will have programs of debate, analysis and interviews with sports figures.
According to TelevisaUnivision, both ViX and ViX+ will provide the most complete coverage of the FIFA World Cup in Mexico, since the free modality will have 30 live games, while the payment scheme will have 10 matches.
In addition to the website, people will be able to download the app for cell phones and other connected devices in the United States, Mexico and 19 other territories in the rest of Latin America.
ViX will be released on March 31, 2022, while ViX+ will be revealed in the second half of the year (no exact date yet).
Although these platforms served as an apprenticeship for the new TelevisaUnivision proposal, they will be added or transformed into its assets in the “next few months”.
TelevisaUnivision still does not give specific numbers in this regard. The only thing that advances is that it will have an “unbeatable price”.
