Sources close to the Madrid councilor consulted by Europa Press have justified his absence at this Casado meeting with his hard core in that he has a “very important” plenary session this Tuesday at the Madrid City Council and is focused on preparing it.

This absence of the mayor of Madrid occurs after it has transpired that he wants to leave the national spokesperson for the Popular Party, although sources close to Almeida specify that “there is nothing official yet.”

Already this past Thursday, when he appeared before the media to explain the alleged espionage to the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, from the Consistory, he stated that he would only speak as mayor of the capital. Almeida has not felt entirely comfortable in this dual role of national spokesperson and mayor for some time.
