Netflix isn’t the only company raising the price of its subscriptions in the US this year.
As reported gadget, Amazon revealed in its latest fiscal results report that it will very soon increase Amazon Prime subscription prices in the US by 16 percent. When the measure takes effect, becoming an Amazon Prime member will increase from $12.99 to month at $14.99 per month for country users. Those who prefer the annual subscription will now pay $139 instead of $119.
The company says the price increase is justified by the expanded benefits included in the package, as well as increased employee wages and increased shipping costs. Amazon Prime membership will continue to include free shipping when you shop at Amazon, exclusive offers, and access to Prime Video, Prime Music, and other Amazon online platforms.
The price change will start for new customers on February 18, 2022. For those who are already Prime members, prices will not increase until March 25, 2022.
This is the first time since 2018 that Amazon has increased the price of its Prime subscription. When Amazon Prime launched in the United States in 2005, it was priced at $79 a year. In 2014 the service went on to cost $99 dollars per year and in 2018 it reached its maximum price so far, $119 dollars per year.
At the moment the company does not refer to whether this measure will also be applied in countries other than the United States.
