An “embarrassed” Will Smith apologizes to Chris Rock | Digital Trends Spanish

The American actor Will Smith publicly apologized to his colleague Chris Rock, whom he slapped at the 2022 Oscar Awards ceremony. The winner of the statuette for King Richard declared himself “embarrassed” by his attitude, motivated by a mockery of his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

“Violence in all its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at the Academy Awards last night (Sunday) was unacceptable and inexcusable,” he wrote in his social media the star of Men in Black. “Pranks at my expense are part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me and I reacted emotionally,” she explained.

Later, he “publicly apologized” to Chris Rock, who was hosting the awards at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles when he was hit. “I crossed the line and I was wrong. I am ashamed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness,” he added.

Will Smith also apologized to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, as well as “the producers of the show, everyone in attendance and everyone who saw it around the world.” He asked the same for the Williams family, considering that he won the Oscar for playing the father of sisters Venus and Serena, as well as the film’s team.

“I deeply regret that my behavior has tarnished what has been a magnificent journey for all of us,” he said, before calling himself a “work in progress.”
