Analysis of the iPhone 13: almost nothing to envy to the iPhone 13 Pro
“Some details that you will surely be interested in knowing about the iPhone 13 are its new portrait mode, how the cinematic video works, how long the battery lasts, how small its notch is and how it compares with the iPhone 13 Pro”
More refined design
Longer battery life
No night mode in portraits
Does not have 120Hz refresh rate
If you plan to buy the new iPhone 13, but you do not know if it will be as good as the iPhone 13 Pro, I can give you a detail: they are almost identical, although they have big differences that you will want to know before making a decision.
Some details that you will surely be interested to know about the iPhone 13 are its new portrait mode, how cinematic video works, how long the battery lasts, how small its notch is, and how it compares to the iPhone 13 Pro.

The new iPhone 13 is an evolution over its predecessors, there is no doubt about that. Since I started using it, I put its dual camera, the power of its A15 Bionic processor to the test and above all I was intrigued by its battery life, which is technically slightly higher than that of the iPhone 12.
If you ask me if it has big changes compared to the iPhone 12 or even the iPhone 11, the answer is no. Although it looks different, the edges are cleaner and the cameras change a bit, in general the physical modifications are not that great. If you plan to buy the iPhone 13 and you have one of these two phones, you should look at what comes inside.
The new chip Manzana It is more efficient, that means it is designed to save battery together with iOS 15 when some processes are not active: it can switch from the 5G network to 4G and it does not use its maximum capacity of 1,200 nits on the screen unless you see photos in HDR quality.
For me, the iPhone 13 is Apple’s new base phone, because although the iPhone 13 mini technically has almost the same features, I do not love such small screens.
If we talk about the iPhone 13 screen, I have to be frank with you: it looks amazing, but not as amazing as the iPhone 13 Pro. And the reason is simple, while the iPhone 13 has a Super Retina XDR display, the Pro adds technology. ProMotion, which allows the screen to have a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz.
This iPhone 13, like the iPhone 12, has a 60 Hz screen, something that could make you change your mind if you want a screen where images update faster, either for your daily use or to play video games of a better way. Either way, the screen is very bright and gives incredible colors.
On the other hand, we have to talk about notch or eyebrow. It is evident that it is smaller, 20 percent according to Apple, but for users who are already used to seeing her, her reduction in size didn’t make much of a difference. Also, at the moment, many applications have not adapted to the new size, so they do not work correctly, something that will surely be adapted in the future.
Apple said that the iPhone 13 would have up to 2.5 more hours of battery in common use compared to the iPhone 12. In my tests it can reach the end of the day and go to sleep without having to charge the cell phone; even the next morning the phone had at least 20 percent battery power.
Those of Cupertino indicated that the battery of the iPhone 13 is slightly higher, although at the moment we do not know exactly how much it is.
As for the cameras, I must say that there are several important developments that we must acknowledge. On the one hand, Apple improved the sensors, so although they are 12 MP, the regular and wide-angle cameras can receive more light and therefore less noise in low-light situations.
The first detail you should know is that although it does not have a telephoto lens, the portraits with this cell phone look very good. In fact, the main advance compared to the iPhone 12 is that the lens has a wider focal length, which will allow your photos with portrait mode to be no longer just of the bust of a person as before, but full body.
On the other hand, something you should know is that although Apple announced night mode for portrait photographs, this feature only applies to Pro models, therefore, in this section we will continue to obtain a night mode similar to last year.
Now let’s talk about kinematic mode. In addition to being a breakthrough, it is Apple’s format to bring us videos with blurred backgrounds or bokeh, which other companies have brought before. This mode introduces depth of field, which works automatically when choosing the people or objects that are in the foreground, or manual, since you can select what will be in focus and what will not.
One thing I found out is that cinematic mode only works for very close shots and with objects that are not too far from the camera. Take a look at our video to see it in action.
Finally, Apple introduced photographic styles, which simply allow you to define by default if you want your photos to always have a standard, vibrant style, with a richer, warmer or cooler contrast.
The front camera gives you good photos, without anything relevant to say in this section, where we also find the night mode.
If you want to buy one of these phones, keep in mind that the iPhone 13 is not a Pro for these reasons:
- It does not have a 120Hz refresh rate.
- It does not have a dedicated telephoto lens.
- It does not have night mode in portraits.
- Its optical zoom is 2x and not 6x as in the 13 Pro.
- It does not have a LiDAR sensor.
- Its GPU (graphics processing unit) is inferior.
- You don’t have the 1 TB storage option.
The iPhone 13 is Apple’s breakthrough in the right direction. Camera changes and adjustments have been requested by users for a long time, and Apple seems to have listened.
I usually compare the processing capacity of Apple phones in combination with iOS 15 as the perfect orchestra, because one is designed for the other and vice versa, and on this cell phone it is no different.
If you plan to renew your iPhone 11 for a 13 do it, although if you have an iPhone 12 you could wait maybe a little longer and thus notice more tangible changes in terms of design and specifications.
