Although most of the Android phone makers on this list have promised Android 12 updates sooner or later, one that stands out (due to circumstances) is LG. Yes ok the company went out of business of smartphones, it did promise to update some of its flagship phones, including the LG Wing, LG Velvet, V50 and G8 to Android 12… if that was even possible. In 2022, the company shared a list of all the phones it would update to Android 12, although it emphasizes that the list is only for South Korean phones. Soon after, the updates began rolling out across the globe, including to Verizon and T-Mobile models of the LG Velvet and LG v60 ThinQ, respectively. The LG Wing and V50 ThinQ received updates shortly after.

Android 12 may not even be the last stop in the life of LG phones. Not guaranteed but a list of South Korea indicated that the company planned to go all the way to Android 13 at some point. Xiaomi

Xiaomi has released MIUI 13, its own version of Android 12. As with other Chinese versions of this operating system, it bears little resemblance to Google’s iteration. Instead, Xiaomi has doubled down on its own distinctive iOS-inspired interface. If you’re a fan of Xiaomi’s approach, you’ll be happy to hear that the company isn’t backing down. It’s even adding new iOS-style widgets with MIUI 13. It’s a far cry from Google’s funnier versions of widgets, but it’s consistent. Xiaomi is also rolling out Google’s Material You with MIUI 13. While the APIs that make Material You possible are still locked into Google’s Android 12L build, Xiaomi appears to have manually added them to its own Android 12 build. This means that the Clever color-shifting and other features you’ll find on the Pixel will also be on Xiaomi’s phones when MIUI 12 launches without the hacky or less-elegant methods other phone makers on this list have adopted. It’s one of the strengths of Android’s open source nature, despite all its weaknesses.

Reports from European customers have confirmed the start of launches as early as March. With the Asus Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro receiving their updates in May 2022, and the ROG Phone 3 in June, Asus’ rollout is complete.

Instead, you’ll find the company redesigning its interface with what it calls “Fluid Space Design,” which refocuses on animation and careful use of white space.

While Material You doesn’t exist here, customization with wallpaper color themes does, and Realme’s theme engine will pick up colors from your wallpapers and apply them to system elements for a more cohesive experience. However, this will not apply to third-party apps like the Material You theme. Finally, new privacy features will be present in Android 12, including changes to camera, microphone, and location permissions.
