Annual Happiness Report: Nordics lead again | Digital Trends Spanish

The 2023 report released today reveals that self-reported “life ratings” levels of happiness have been “remarkably resilient,” with global averages between 2020 and 2022 as high as those reported before the pandemic.

The annual World Happiness Report uses data from studies such as the Gallup World Pollwhich compiles around 1,000 self-assessed life assessments from each of the 137 participating countries to determine your overall ranking.

The self-reported assessments are divided into six key factors: social support, income, health, freedom, generosity, and absence of corruption, to help determine how and why results vary in each country. The final happiness rankings are based on a three-year average of these lifetime evaluations.

Nordic countries back in the lead:

Finland continues to rank first, for the sixth year in a row, with a score that is significantly ahead of all other countries. Denmark remains in 2nd place, with a confidence region limited by 2nd and 4th. Among the rest of the countries in the top twenty, the trusted regions for their ranks cover five to ten countries. Iceland is 3rd, and with its smaller sample size, it has a confidence region of 2nd to 7th. Israel is in 4th position, up five positions from last year, with a confidence range between 2nd and 8th. Positions 5 to 8 are occupied by the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Switzerland.

The top ten are completed by Luxembourg and New Zealand. Austria and Australia remain in positions 11 and 12, like last year, both within the probable range of 8 to 16. Canada follows, two places higher than last year’s lowest ranking. The next four positions are held by Ireland, the United States, Germany and Belgium, all with safe ranks in the top twenty, as shown by the rank ranges.

Costa Rica the first in Latin America

On the Latin American side, the ranking shows Costa Rica in 23rd place as the happiest in the region, followed by Uruguay in 28th place.

Chile in 35 and Mexico in 36 are still in Latin America. Nicaragua closes the outstanding podium in position 40.

On the negative side, the most unfortunate are Sierra Leone, Lebanon and the worst is Afghanistan.
