Anti-corruption asks for 4 years in prison for the councilors of Rita Barberá and up to 15 for her deputy mayor Alfonso Grau for money laundering

The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office has requested sentences of four years in prison and a fine of 100,000 euros for practically the entire government team of Rita Bareberá at the head of the Valencia City Council between 2007 and 2015, specifically, for 45 advisers and councilors, in the framework of the ‘Taula case’ by which the illegal financing of the electoral campaigns of the years 2007, 2011 and 2015 is investigated, as well as the laundering of funds with the smurfing method, by which each of the defendants entered 1,000 to the account of the party that later would have been returned to them in an envelope with two 500 euro bills.

In an accusation letter to which elDiario.es has had access, Anti-Corruption has also requested up to 15 years in prison and a fine of 100,000 euros for the former vice mayor and right hand of Barberá, Alfonso Grau, for the crimes of money laundering, embezzlement and bribery, while for María del Carmen García Fuster, secretary of the popular municipal group of València and a trusted person of the deceased mayor, she has requested up to seven years in prison and a fine of 100,000 euros for the crimes of money laundering and bribery.

The head of the Court of Intruction 18 issued an indictment on October 19, a step prior to the opening of the trial, unless the recourses raised are successful.

Some of the defendants for whom the prosecutor requests 4 years in prison, such as the advisor Luis Salom, the advisor Cristina Diego, or the former councilor for Sports, Cristóbal Grau, are part of the current popular municipal group headed by spokesperson María José Catalá.

Salom, who has filed a fortnight of complaints against the current leaders without any of them being successful, continues to be an advisor, as well as Diego, while Cristóbal Grau is the group’s secretary.
