Ayuso’s Primary Care manager submits her resignation in the midst of an emergency crisis

The care manager of Ayuso Primary Care, Sonia Martínez Machuca, has submitted her resignation in the midst of the emergency crisis, which has just led to an announcement of an indefinite strike call by the workers of the Rural Care Services for the new out-of-hospital emergency plan for the Community of Madrid. This specialist in Family and Community Medicine has been in the position since October 2020, when her predecessor, Marta Sánchez-Celaya, resigned.

From the Ministry of Health of the Community of Madrid they have confirmed to this newsroom that Martínez Machuca has submitted his resignation “for medical and personal reasons.” The Más Madrid group in the Assembly has registered a request for the appearance of the counselor Enrique Ruiz Escudero, to find out the reason for the different changes in the management teams of public hospitals and in the management of Primary Care.

Martínez Machuca’s management at the head of Primary Care has been marked by discontent and complaints from professionals, who have spent months denouncing the bad situation they are going through in the Community. Specifically, they denounce their high care burden, poor working and economic conditions and lack of means. Sánchez-Celaya left the post in October 2020 after approving a plan, with which he saved an indefinite strike with which the unions threatened.

Martínez Machuca was in charge of starting to pilot this plan, which included structural measures, salary equalization, salary increases, temporary measures and a strategy to occupy those positions that were difficult to fill. However, in December of that same year, the Ministry of Finance stopped this strategy for budgetary reasons and the Government of Ayuso imposed a new Comprehensive Improvement Plan for Primary Care with the refusal of all the unions of the sectoral table, the scientific societies and even the College of Physicians, considering that it was insufficient.

In March 2021, the unions called a strike, which started on the 10th and had a following of 80%. It ended that same morning, after the announcement by the Madrid president of the early electoral call, with which she blew up her pact with Ciudadanos.

In addition, all the unions of the Sectorial Board have called an indefinite strike for the professionals who perform their functions in the current SAR Primary Care devices, as well as the 146 professionals of the Primary Care Emergency Services ( SUAP) that are affected by the restructuring of out-of-hospital emergencies.

“We are at a point where, given the tremendous worsening of working conditions that involves wanting to cover 78 service points with the personnel of the current SAR (41), we have no other choice but to propose a situation of union of the five trade union organizations present at the Sectorial Table and raise a conflict in the form of a strike by those affected”, lamented last Thursday the general secretary of Amyts, Ángela Hernández
