Barcelona will host the Copa América de Vela in 2024


Barcelona will host the America’s Sailing Cup in 2024, as confirmed by the Generalitat’s Minister of Business and Work, Roger Torrent, in an interview on Catalunya Ràdio this Monday. The Minister has indicated that they are waiting for the organization’s decision to be made official, although “it will not take long” and he expects it to be communicated “in a matter of hours”.

“The work by the Generalitat and the administrations as a whole is done”, he stated, referring to the collaboration with the City Council, Provincial Council and the Port of Barcelona. Torrent has assured that the fact that Barcelona hosts the competition will mean “a millionaire return” for the city and has stressed that the projection it entails is very important, especially in markets such as the United States, in which there is interest in positioning itself from the point of view of tourist view.

“The Copa América is a very important brand”, he indicated. Torrent has also explained that there will be a contribution from the administrations, although he has added that it is an exercise in public-private collaboration and, therefore, there will also be agents from the private sector who will make contributions. As he has detailed, the event management model must be linked to the great positioning potential “of the city and the country” and this has to do with linking it to principles and values ​​from an environmental and socioeconomic point of view.

The Valencian Community, which hosted the international event in 2007 and 2010, on this occasion ruled out opting for it as it involved a cost to the public coffers of 180 million euros.
