Batgirl movie canceled before its premiere | Digital Trends Spanish

batgirl, the DC Comics movie, will be put in a trunk and will not be seen by anyone. As you read: it will be completely “archived” by Warner Bros., as learned this morning by the new york post.

What does this mean? well what not only will it not reach the cinema: it will not even be possible to see it on HBO Maxas was the plan just a few months ago.

But what the hell happened?

This is the only thing you’ll see of Leslie Grace dressed as “Batgirl.” Twitter/@lesliegrace

Filming was already well advanced, almost in its final stretch to be released in late 2022. With a budget of $70 million (which could be much more), it was subjected to the scrutiny of experts and moviegoers, who found it so, so bad. that, to protect the prestige of DC (and Warner / HBO), they decided that it should not see the light. Never. Never.

Directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys for Life), did not receive a single mention at the DC Comic-Con panel in San Diego in July, a situation that caught the attention of many, since that event is practically made to excite the public with what is coming. Starring Leslie Grace (In the Heights) alongside JK Simmons, Michael Keaton and Brendan Fraser, was originally planned to debut on HBO Max. Later there was speculation with a premiere also in theaters, but everything seems to indicate that we will never see Grace in the bat suit.

the publication TheWrap He assures that the film was made “with a streaming movie in mind, not as a big theatrical release, and the new management of Warner Bros. wants to make DC titles as big as possible.”

And of course: Batgirl not only wasn’t, she couldn’t even be fixed.

“The decision not to release Batgirl reflects the strategic shift in our leadership when it comes to the DC Universe and HBO Max. Leslie Grace is an incredibly talented actress and this decision is not a reflection of her performance. We are incredibly grateful to the filmmakers of Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt and their respective casts and we look forward to collaborating with everyone again in the near future,” a Warner Bros. spokesperson reportedly said.

It is a news still in development, and as soon as we have more information, we will tell you.
