Black Mirror is perhaps the most important science fiction and technology series in history, and now that it returns to Netflix in June with a new seasonand with the parallel rise of AI, the creator of the show, Charlie Brooker, admitted that he used ChatGPT to test the completion of a chapter.
“I’ve played a bit with ChatGPT. The first thing I did was write ‘generate Black Mirror episode’ and something appears that, at first glance, seems plausible, but at second glance it’s rubbish.” Brooker pointed out.
Brooker added what happened to the final result and why he didn’t like it, “Because all we’ve done is look up all the ‘Black Mirror’ episode synopses and mix them up. Then if you dig a little deeper, you say: ‘Oh, there’s not really any original thinking here.’”
In any case, the creator of Black Mirror assured that there is something positive about all this:
“I knew that I had written a lot of episodes where someone says ‘Oh, I was inside a computer the whole time!’ So I thought, ‘I’m going to dismiss any sense of what I think is a ‘Black Mirror’ episode. There’s no point in having an anthology show if you can’t break your own rules. Just kind of a cold glass of water in the face.”
