Black Panther director arrested after mistaking him for a thief | Digital Trends Spanish


An awkward situation had to endure the director of Black Panther, Ryan Coogler. The filmmaker was held inside a Bank of America branch in Atlanta after being mistaken for a thief.

“This situation should never have happened,” lamented the affected. In addition to receiving apologies from the police, he assured that the banking institution addressed the incident to his complete satisfaction, for which he accepted both apologies.

According to the report of The Hollywood Reporterthe episode occurred on January 7, 2022, when Coogler and two friends were approached by law enforcement officers while occupying a vehicle parked outside the bank.

Moments before, the also producer and screenwriter had “innocently” handed a note to a cashier so that she would be discreet when giving her an amount of money greater than $10,000 dollars.

“The officer received an alert notification and quickly alerted her manager that Suspect #3 [Coogler] I was trying to rob the bank. 911 was alerted and responded,” the police report said.

When police arrived at the scene, they discovered a black Lexus SUV with two occupants and the engine running. Although they were told that the principal was expected, the physical description matched that of a true criminal.

As the couple was held outside the car, Coogler was led out of the bank handcuffed by two uniformed men. The director limited himself to asking for the names and badge numbers of the agents involved.
