The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, was admitted this Wednesday morning to the Hospital of the Armed Forces in Brasilia for an attack of hiccups and abdominal pain and will have to remain under medical observation for 48 hours, not necessarily hospitalized, as reported official sources.
In a statement, the government indicated that “on the advice of his medical team” the president will go through examinations this Wednesday to investigate the hiccups that have been affecting him for almost a week and “will remain under observation for the next 24 and 48 hours, not necessarily inside the hospital. ”
“He is encouraged and well,” concluded the note, without further details, while the official agenda that he should fulfill throughout this Wednesday, which included a meeting with the presidents of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco; of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira, and of the Supreme Court, Luiz Fux, among other activities, has been canceled.
The meeting, according to media, was aimed at smoothing the rough edges between the three powers, after Bolsonaro attacked the electronic voting system and defended the printed vote for the 2022 elections, in which he will seek his re-election.
The head of state also had scheduled a meeting with the National Coordination Committee for Coping with the Covid-19 Pandemic and the launch of a program of actions for secondary education.
Since Thursday of last week, when he made his program live through social networks, Bolsonaro showed the hiccups that afflicted him and in his subsequent public interventions he continued with the symptoms.
People close to the president indicated that at dawn on Wednesday the president also felt abdominal pain.
In September last year, the 65-year-old president of Brazil underwent surgery in Sao Paulo to remove a kidney stone.
In the last three years, Jair Bolsonaro has undergone five operations, four of them as a result of the attack he suffered in 2018, in the middle of the electoral campaign, when received a stab in the abdomen by a man with mental disorders, according to authorities.
Bolsonaro was stabbed while being carried on the shoulders of a crowd at an electoral rally held in the town of Juiz de Fora, in the southeastern state of Minas Gerais.
The aggressor was arrested immediately after the attack, but was declared unimpeachable, since the judge considered that he had no capacity to answer for his actions due to his mental problems.
Last July, the far-right leader, one of the most skeptical leaders about the severity of the new coronavirus, tested positive for covid-19 and spent twenty days isolated in the Alvorada Palace, his official residence in Brasilia, until he surpassed the illness.
Precisely, a Parliamentary Investigation Commission (CPI) of the Senate analyzes the degree of responsibility of the Executive led by Bolsonaro in the management of the pandemic, which has so far left more than 535,000 dead and 19.7 million confirmed cases in the country.
