Bolsonaro sanctions Brazil’s budgets for 2022


The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, has sanctioned with partial vetoes this Monday the Country budget for 2022, approved in December by Congress, with a total expenditure of 4.73 billion Brazilian reais.

The Budget Law published in the Official Gazette estimates a deficit of 79,300 million reais and a growth of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 2.1% by 2022.

Additionally, the text foresees a deficit of 79,300 million reais for this year and an item of 1.88 billion reais (302,045 million euros) to refinance public debt.

The text also collects 89,100 million Brazilian reais for the program ‘Brazil aid‘, a social plan for the distribution of subsidies designed by the Government that replaced the previous one ‘Family Bag‘.

The vetoes to Budget They have mainly affected the Ministries of Education and Labor in approximately 3,180 million reais (510 million euros).

The most affected areas have been scientific research and public policies aimed at indigenous populations. They have also affected projects for the consolidation of rural settlements and research in universities, among others.

On the other hand, the Budget maintains the item of 4,900 million reais destined for the fund that political formations use to finance electoral campaigns.
