Brazil suspends iPhone sales due to lack of chargers | Digital Trends Spanish

A strict measure was taken by the Brazilian government, since it decided to suspend the sale of Apple iPhones, due to the lack of chargers at the time of purchase. In addition, the company has received a fine of about 2.3 million dollars for this reason.

Apple stopped including the charger in the iPhone box starting with the 2019 iPhone 11, claiming it’s due to a plan to “be greener by generating less electronic waste and reducing carbon emissions” by saving charging space in moving phones, or at least that’s what they say. Brazil, for its part, considers that removing the charger from the phone box is a “discriminatory practice against consumers.”

According to the Brazilian Ministry of Justice:

“A fine of 12,274,500 reais is applied […] and the sale of all iPhone brand smartphones, regardless of model or generation, that are not accompanied by a charger is immediately suspended.

Samsung, for its part, began offering free chargers with the purchase of the new Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 in Brazil.
