The omicron variant continues to drive the sixth wave to record records of infections and there are already 115,706 positives accumulated in the last 7 days, an average of 16,500 daily diagnoses and more than double that of the previous week.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, a total of 1,327,880 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 by all kinds of tests in Catalonia, of which 22,200 in the last 24 hours.

With this avalanche of infections, primary care is under significant pressure and has attended 53,214 visits related to COVID this past Friday, 11,000 more than the same day the previous week.

The cumulative incidence of 7-day positives per 100,000 inhabitants (IA7) is 1,481 cases (154 more than the day before), with the 20 to 29-year-old group registering the highest figures (2,067 cases). The incidence at 14 days for its part is already growing above 2,000 cases (2,186 specifically).

Positivity – the percentage of positive results among all types of tests – exceeds 20% (22.3%), quadrupling the 5% established by the World Health Organization (WHO) to consider an epidemic under control. In the case of antigen tests in symptomatic people, positivity is shot up to 45.37%.

The risk of regrowth is already close to 4,000 points (3,976), while the speed of spread of the virus remains at 1.87, which means that every 100 infected infects an average of 187 people.

In the last 24 hours, 20,794 third doses have been administered and almost 2 million Catalans already have it (1,947,950), which represents that 27% of the population has received this vaccine booster.
