Catalonia maintains the limitation of meetings to a maximum of 10 people

Catalonia will maintain the current restrictions for one more week. The Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) has agreed this Thursday to extend the measures demanded by the Government, which limit the meetings to a maximum of 10 people and impose the closure of the restaurant at 00:30 hours at night. The capacity limitations in religious acts are also maintained at 70%.

The court has not ruled for the moment on the closure of nightlife, after the sector filed a lawsuit in which it claimed to revoke the ban. The Catalan Federation of Associations of Restoration and Musical Activities had demanded precautionary measures that the Chamber rejected, transferring it to the Government to justify the closure.

Although the extension of the measures does not yet enter into this issue, the TSJC considers that the limitations on social gatherings and capacity proposed by the Generalitat are necessary to control the level of contagion in Catalonia, which has improved compared to the moments of greatest expansion of the pandemic experienced at the beginning of the summer. In this way, the maximum of 10 people, the capacity at 70% and the closure of the hotel business half an hour after midnight are measures that are extended from this Friday until September 10.

The pandemic has subsided in Catalonia in recent weeks and continues with a downward trend in both the level of infections and hospitalizations. In the last 24 hours, 1,197 infections have been reported and those admitted to ICUs stand at 351, which represents a decrease of 18 from the previous day. Hospitalizations also fell, with 62 discharges that leave the total figure at 1,016.

Regarding vaccination, the numbers of new inoculated continue to be below the expectations of the Department of Health. The minister Josep Maria Argimon urged this Wednesday to improve the rhythm during this month of September, coinciding with the return of the holidays and the beginning of the school year. As he assured, the Ministry is focusing its efforts on being able to vaccinate the million Catalans who have not yet been immunized.
