As reported by the Generalitat, it will be allowed until January 16 to hire students of these two degrees who are in the last two years of their studies. They will be able to carry out “health aid” tasks always under the supervision of a health professional, in a task very similar to that of current clinical practices that these students have to carry out.

The intention is to reinforce the templates during the Christmas period. These students may be hired both in hospitals and outpatient clinics, as well as in social and health care centers. In just 24 hours, more than 1,000 applications have already been received from students who wish to join the health system for a few weeks.

The call from the department comes at a time when healthcare pressure continues to rise in Catalonia. In the last 24 hours, 18 more patients have been admitted to Catalan hospitals and 13 more patients have reached critical care units. There are already 1,344 patients admitted and 356 those who are in ICUs of hospital centers, who have already begun to postpone non-urgent interventions.

The omicron variant, already the majority in the city of Barcelona, continues to expand rapidly in the community, which yesterday declared more than 13,300 new cases confirmed by PCR or antigen tests. The percentage of positive tests is already 11.63% and the cumulative incidence at 14 days has gone from 809 to 845 cases. In the last 24 hours, 38 deaths of patients with Covid-19 have been reported in Catalonia.
