Catalonia plans to maintain the night curfew for more than three weeks


The Minister of Health of the Generalitat, Josep Maria Argimon, has assured this Monday that he plans to maintain the night curfew, decreed between 1 and 6 in the morning in 161 Catalan municipalities, for more than three weeks to be able to lower the incidence of those affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

In an interview in the SER collected by Europa Press, he specified that in a week some fruit of the night curfew will be observed, but it will take more days than initially announced. “To be able to lower this incidence it takes more than one, two and three weeks,” he pointed out. What the ‘councilor’ does not plan to expand is the list of municipalities affected by this measure, claiming that they already demanded “quite strict” requirements.

After the weekend, the minister has confirmed that there is already a slight decrease in infections in all ages, especially among the youngest, and believes that nighttime confinement can help reduce contacts between this group. “It is also true that they can continue in the most private environment”, explained Argimon during the interview.

“We cannot trust everything to the white coat. We are wrong. We must avoid contagion,” Argimon insisted, after warning that vaccines are not 100% effective, and added that a large part of those admitted to hospitals or ICUs are people who have not been vaccinated or who did not have the complete regimen.

Catalonia exceeds 300 admitted to the ICU

According to the data of this Monday, Catalonia has already exceeded 300 patients admitted to the ICU, a figure that had not been given since last May 24. During the last 24 hours, 138 more admitted to the plant have been declared and there are already 1,683 patients hospitalized for Covid-19. During the same period, 10 more people have been admitted to the ICU and there are already 307 patients in these units.

Of the patients in the critical care unit, 18 are less than 30 years old and 103 of them are between 30 and 49. Regarding the new cases, Salut has confirmed 4,032 new positives during the last day and both the Rt and the risk of regrowth have decreased slightly. The first indicator is currently at 1.13, while the second is at 1.314. During the last 24 hours, 7 more deaths have been reported from coronavirus. The cumulative incidence at 14 days is currently 1,187.61 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
