Amsterdam inaugurates the first 3D printed steel bridge | Digital Trends Spanish

Amsterdam has just opened the world's first 3D printed steel bridge. The surprising structure will also serve as a laboratory for this type of technology, as it will deliver information on its structural integrity and crowd behavior through sensors. The construction of the bridge was led by the Netherlands company, MX3D, and is signed by Imperial College London. The structure is 12 meters long, weighs 4,500 kilos and behind its construction are four industrial robots and six months of printing. All the work took four years for the researchers. Thea van den HeuvelThe bridge was transported last week to its final location on the Oudezijds Achterburgwal canal in Amsterdam and is now open to pedestrians and cyclists. Brewery Gets Clean Energy By Burning Iron Powder | Digital Trends Spanish

Many industries require the burning of fossil fuels to function. Although it is an effective way, it is not very ecological. The problem is, this practice has been around for years. Fortunately, a greener way of running industries has emerged today, with much less impact on the environment. The Swinkels brewery in the Netherlands sources cheap and very fine iron powder fuel, which can burn at high temperatures, releasing energy as it oxidizes. This process does not emit carbon and produces an iron oxide, which can be collected very easily. The company has become the first in the world to use this procedure on an industrial scale. The system they have installed in conjunction with the Technical University of Eindhoven provides them with all the heat necessary for some 15 million g...

Flu Vaccine Could Reduce COVID-19 Infection | Digital Trends Spanish

Researchers and medical officials are gathering information in the hope of finding a cure for the coronavirus, or at least an effective way to reduce the risk of infection. We still know little about this new health threat so any discovery may be useful, even if it has not yet been confirmed. Preliminary research suggests that a flu virus vaccine can also cause the body to produce broad molecules that fight infection and the virus causing the pandemic. Mihai Netea, an infectious disease immunologist at Radboud University Medical Center in the Netherlands, checked his hospital databases to see if medical officials who got flu shots during the 2019-2020 season had more or less likely to get SARS-CoV-2. He and his team found that workers who received the flu vaccine were 39 percent le...

Why in the Netherlands they say that the mask does not work? | Digital Trends Spanish

In his capacity as a senior official at the Netherlands National Institute for Public Health and Environment (RIVM), Jaap van Dissel is the government's top advisor for the management of the coronavirus pandemic. That is why it was striking that the director of the RIVM Outbreak Management Team affirmed that “there is not enough evidence” to decree the use of masks. According to Reuters, Van Dissel said that face masks could cause people not to observe the social distancing measure well enough. In addition, he believes that there could be people who use them incorrectly, which could increase the transmission of COVID-19. This has been reaffirmed by the Minister of Health, Tamara van Ark, who decreed the non-obligation to wear a mask after a meeting she held at the end...
