7 Sin Stocks Whose Profits Are Too Irresistible to Pass Up

The definition of sin stocks varies by source. Investopedia defines them as follows: “A sin stock is a publicly traded company involved in or associated with an activity that is considered unethical or immoral. Sin stocks are generally in sectors that deal directly with morally dubious actions. They are perceived as making money from exploiting human weaknesses and frailties.” In “The Price of Sin: The Effects of Social Norms on Markets,” professors Harrison Hong and Marcin Kacperczyk state the following about sin stocks: “[W]e find that sin stocks are less held by normconstrained institutions such as pension plans as compared to mutual or hedge funds that are natural arbitrageurs, and they receive less coverage from analysts than stocks of otherwise comparable characteristics,”...

Blowout Earnings Should Add to the Rally in Activision Blizzard Stock

Activision Blizzard (NASDAQ:ATVI) stock declined over 2% in after-hours trading Tuesday. Honestly, I have no idea why. Source: Piotr Swat / Shutterstock.com It's possible ATVI stock just needed a breather. At the close of regular trading, shares rallied 66% since Mar. 20. That included a 7% gain in just five sessions ahead of Tuesday afternoon's earnings report. Still, that earnings report was spectacular. Activision Blizzard's results crushed analyst estimates. A raised full-year outlook too was well above expectations. It's not just that Activision Blizzard beat estimates, either. It's how the company delivered the beat. And so Q2 isn't just about near-term gains. It's about the attractive long-term case for ATVI stock. The Headline Numbers Again, earnings were spectacu...

Buy Caesars Entertainment Stock for a New Casino Behemoth

You wouldn't expect this to be the perfect time to create the world's biggest casino operator, but then again, billionaire investor Carl Icahn has always had an out-of-the-box approach to business. He was the principal driving force behind Eldorado Resorts' $17.3 billion buyout of Caesars Entertainment (NASDAQ:CZR), a hugely ambitious deal considering the circumstances. But Icahn and other stakeholders are taking a long-term view, and that is why CZR stock will soar higher. Source: Jason Patrick Ross/Shutterstock.com The novel coronavirus will eventually disappear after a vaccine is commercially available. We have seen the enthusiasm gamblers expressed when casinos reopened in June. If that is anything to go by, there is a lot of pent-up demand that will come out when thi...

Soaring Southwest Airlines Stock Will Stay Sector Leader

Are airline stocks back? Well, it might be a leap to say that much. However, Southwest Airlines (NYSE:LUV) and its peers may have already seen the lows. If that's the case, investors are now wondering whether LUV stock can continue to lead the group. Source: Eliyahu Yosef Parypa / Shutterstock.com Over the past month, LUV stock is down 12.56%, which is about in-line with its peers. It only “lags” — if you can call it that — Spirit Airlines (NYSE:SAVE) and United Airlines (NASDAQ:AAL), both down 12.2%. It slightly lags these two over the past three months too, with Southwest stock down about 1%. However, that's much better than Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) and American Airlines (NASDAQ:AAL), which are down 9.75% and 13.5%, respectively. Over the longer term though, Southwest ha...

3 of the Best Big Data Stocks for Long-Term Investors to Buy | InvestorPlace

During the bull run of the past decade, technology stocks led many investment portfolios higher. Most technology stocks posted remarkable comebacks since hitting 52-week lows in the novel coronavirus sell-off. The technology sector encompasses many high-growth businesses and one area that gets considerable attention is big data. According to recent research led by Zeki Simsek of Clemson University, there are three dimensions to big data, ie, “volume (the magnitude of data), variety (structural heterogeneity in a data set), and velocity (the rate at which data are generated and speed at which they are analyzed and used)." The research further highlights that "Big data is becoming an increasingly important business in which various actors not only control the databases but also r...
