“Dearest Yolanda, if one day you have a difficult day, remember this image: we are hundreds of councilors who already walk by your side, from below, so that you can be president. We are not only going to add, we are going to multiply and we are going to win!” Colau asserted at the close of the conference that En Comú Podem held this Saturday to present some of its candidates for next year’s municipal elections.

Colau’s is one of the most prominent supports of the leftist confluences for Díaz in the process – called ‘Sumar’ – that the second vice president of the Government has initiated to launch herself to lead an electoral candidacy that will be decided when she concludes her contacts in December with different groups.

“I have the pride and honor of being the first female mayor of Barcelona and I trust that we will have the pride and honor of Yolanda Díaz being the first president of the Government”, added Colau.

An example of the total closure of the ranks of those from Colau with Díaz is that the name chosen by En Comú Podem for the act with which the party has kicked off the pre-campaign for the municipal elections of May 2023 has been ‘Add to gain’.

After an electoral setback in 2019 compared to 2015, the comuns currently have 16 mayorships, and for the next elections they will present up to 200 candidates. The objective, in addition to retaining Barcelona, is to grow both in the metropolitan municipalities and in the rest of Catalonia, and revalidate mayoralties such as those of El Prat de Llobregat, Montcada i Reixac and Santa Perpètua de Mogoda (Barcelona).

“In 2023 we add to win everything, to win again. We will not only add but multiply our strength”, the mayor has launched the militancy, in an act that has also had the intervention of the current spokesman for the comuns in Congress, Joan Mena, who will be the mayor of the party in Sabadell ( Barcelona).

Colau has also wanted to claim the expansion of social policies under his mandate, such as the dentist or the municipal psychologist, the Barcelona electricity company and social housing: “We have not only come to stand up to the powers that be that no one had stopped the feet before, we are also doing much more than what they told us could be done from municipalism”.
