Convicted of shooting at a pro-independence banner shouting “Catalan sons of bitches”

The Criminal Court number 3 of Terrassa has sentenced a man to one year and three months in prison for shooting and stoning a house in Viladecavalls (Barcelona) that wore symbols in favor of the ‘yes’ to independence. The sentence has been of conformity after the defendant recognized the facts and reached an agreement with the Prosecutor’s Office.

It all happened three days after the referendum on October 1, 2017. The man threw stones and fired five times with a semiautomatic detonating pistol of nine millimeters at a house that had a flag on the balcony asking “yes” in the referendum. . One of the cartridges reached the interior of the house, where at the time of the events were its owner and her nine-year-old son. All of this while shouting expressions like “Catalan sons of bitches”, the sentence picks up.

The man has admitted that he fired the shots “with a clear purpose of causing fear” to the inhabitants of the home and “moved by the feeling of rejection” of the independence movement. The magistrate condemns him for two crimes of threats aggravated by ideological discrimination.

Being a conformance sentence, the judge has agreed to suspend the man’s entry into a penitentiary for two years if he does not commit any crime during that time. The sentence was issued at the end of September and was made public this Wednesday.
