Coronavirus data give a break: infections, deaths and hospitalizations drop

The latest report from the Ministry of Health has registered 19,417 new cases of coronavirus, a markedly lower figure to the 26,018 infections reported on Friday of the previous week. The total number of people infected since the start of the pandemic thus amounts to 13,226,579.

By region, the Valencian Community is the one that reports the most cases (2,922), followed by Madrid (2,617) and Catalonia (2,422).

On the other hand, this Tuesday’s report also reflects that the incidence in people over 60 years of age has decreased, from 558.27 cases per 100,000 inhabitants on Friday to 475.95 on Tuesday.

Regarding the deceased, the portfolio directed by Carolina Darias reports a decrease of six people compared to the previous report, among other reasons because the Basque Country has modified its series of deaths and has subtracted 193 compared to Friday. The total death toll has added since March 2020 a total of 110,713, of which 273 died in the last week.

Finally, another of the indicators that shows a drop is hospital pressure: those admitted with coronavirus stand at 7,836 this August 2, a figure lower than the 8,433 registered on Friday. In the ICU there are 431 patients and 4.96% bed occupancy, which also translates into a decrease compared to a week ago, where it stood at 5.34%.
