December inflation raises the rent by € 46 / month

The historical levels of inflation will be strongly felt in the pockets of the Spanish in 2022.

A market study estimated that the record rise in the CPI in Spain announced on Thursday represents an increase of 552 euros a year in the prices of housing rental in the country.

According to a study carried out by the Idealista real estate portal, the rental contracts linked to the CPI that must be updated for the new year will show a monthly increase of about 46 euros on average.

The harmonized data of CPI in Spain for December registered its biggest year-on-year rise since 1989, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

With these high levels of inflation, the median rental price of a two-bedroom apartment rises to 726 euros per month in December, according to the Idealista study.

The real estate portal carried out this calculation by applying the data announced on Thursday by the INE (+ 6.7%) to the average rental price of this type of housing in December 2020, which stood at 680 euros.
