DGI extends tax reliefs to strengthen economic reactivation

The General Directorate of Income (DGI) of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) informed taxpayers that, through Official Gazette No. 29256-B, Law No. 257 of 2021 was published, which establishes a period for tax regularization of taxpayers, and other provisions are issued.

The main intention of the regularization process envisaged by the aforementioned rule is that, finding ourselves in frank recovery as a result of the economic effects of Covid-19, And being a fact that some taxpayers have not yet been able to appear to normalize the fulfillment of their tax obligations, they can face all those that are in a delinquency condition prior to January 31, 2021.

For taxpayers who request before the DGI to avail themselves of the aforementioned process, they will enjoy it exemption on surcharges and 70% interest in payment arrangements, and 75% in case of full payment of the obligations that are in default condition until January 31, 2021, details the MEF press release.

What’s more, the law grants taxpayers who pay in advance by 2022 (before the end of April) the total property tax corresponding to that period, a discount for prompt payment equivalent to 15% of the total to be paid.

The possibility of formalizing differentiated payment agreements is foreseen for up to six months after the lifting of the state of national emergency. The DGI will adopt the necessary measures to guarantee taxpayers the execution of payment agreements and agreements to facilitate compliance with their tax obligations.

Too establishes that the payment agreements that, as of December 31, 2021, have paid at least 51% of the delinquent balances included in any agreement signed as a result of the amnesty processes, they will have an automatic extension in their payment term until June 2022.
