Dia achieves sales of 6,648 million in 2021, 3.4% less


According to the results preview sent this Thursday to the CNMV, DIA ended the year with 6,647.7 million euros in net sales and with 5,937 operational stores in the four countries where it operates.

Specifically, the company reached net sales of 4,209.8 million euros in Spain in 2021, with a decrease of 6.6%, while in comparable terms they fell by 5.2% over 2020, although they rose by 4.9% over 2019. In Portugal, turnover fell by 5.9%, standing at 592 million euros.

Net sales in Argentina show an exceptional performance driven by the success of the operational and commercial measures put in place and inflation higher than the devaluation of the currency. Brazil is affected by a reduction in sales area of ​​4.2% and a devaluation of the Brazilian real of 8.8%.

“Brazil and Argentina have shown resilient behavior in challenging macroeconomic environments with like-for-like sales similar to those of the 2020 financial year”, they explain from the supermarket company.

According to the company, the 2020 financial year was marked by extraordinary supply purchases due to mobility restrictions mainly in Spain and Portugal that have been normalized in 2021.

Specifically, the number of tickets and, therefore, frequency in the store, grew by 3.3% in 2021, while the value of the average basket fell by 6.7%, showing a change in trend compared to 2020, due to the relaxation of the restrictions that facilitate the increase in the frequency of purchase by customers with smaller baskets.
