Digitize industry procedures and promote consumption of the national product, Commission proposals for economic reactivation

The President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, received the report on the progress, achievements and proposals agreed upon by the members of the High Level Public – Private Commission for the Economic Reactivation of the country.

The president instructed that in the next few days the team that will follow up on the 43 consensual proposals of the 51 presented. The team will be made up of 14 members, seven from the public sector and an equal number of members from the private sector.

In seven work tables, 125 professionals reached a consensus on the 43 proposals that were presented to Cortizo Cohen in the Peace Room of the Presidential Palace.

Some of the selected proposals are: the digitization of procedures and processes in industry and construction; promote the culture of consumption of national production; promoting the purchase of national products by the Government under the “Made in Panama” seal and reactivating the livestock traceability program.

In the tourism sector they propose to undertake a campaign of domestic tourism consumption and reactivate the demand of international travelers with duly endorsed proposals, through the Tourism Promotion Fund (Promtur).

In the financial aspect, they consider it necessary to strengthen the strategies so that the country can get out of the discriminatory lists. Regarding the construction sector, the Commission agreed that it is necessary to eliminate some municipal rates that are not uniform in all municipalities.

They also agreed on the simplification and digitization of public procedures with the support of the Government Innovation Authority.

Ramón Martínez, Minister of Commerce and Industries (MICI), representing the public sector, He stressed that it is the first time in history that a work of this public-private nature has been done.

There were seven work tables that put all their effort to achieve proposals that make us more competitive and will help the economic reactivation of the country ”, mentioned the MICI minister.

For his part, Gabriel Diez, vice president of the National Council of Private Enterprise (CoNEP), representing the private sector, stated that “When you work together, the country benefits, and that is what the private sector did with the National Government.”

The Government supported us at all times and we were able to achieve our objectives. I urge you to continue working as a team; no sector is more important than another, we are all important within the respect ”, he pointed out.

Ten added that the pandemic is the common enemy of everyone in the world, and through teamwork, six economic sectors have been reactivated in the country: financial, energy, agriculture, industrial, construction and tourism.

Participants in the meeting, for the private sector: Jorge Luis Lara, president of the Panamanian Chamber of Construction (CAPAC); Luis Frauca, president of the Industrial Union of Panama (SIP); Otto Wolfschoon, president of the Panama Banking Association (ABP); José Ramón Icaza, president of the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama (CCIAP) and Severo Sousa, Antonio Fletcher, Analisa Montenegro and Alfredo Dubois, from CoNEP.

They accompanied President Cortizo Cohen, por the public sector: José Gabriel Carrizo Jaén, Vice President of the Republic and Minister of the Presidency; Rafael Sabonge, Minister of Public Works; Doris Zapata, Minister of Labor and Labor Development; Omar Montilla, Vice Minister of Domestic Trade and Industries; José Alejandro Rojas, Minister Counselor of Facilitation of Private Investment and Benjamín Colamarco, Executive Secretary in the Secretariat for Follow-up to Execution and Compliance.
