Earning Bitcoins by catching them as in ‘Pokémon GO’: the game that will make it possible is already being developed

Who wants to catch Pokémon when you can go around catching Bitcoins? Niantic, the creators of ‘Pokémon Go’, have collaborated with Fold, a company that created an app that allows you to obtain Bitcoin rewards when making purchases with your debit card.

The result of the collaboration is ‘Fold AR’, an augmented reality game called “part of the metaverse” and that will allow players to earn Bitcoin rewards via mobile phone.

‘Fold AR’ is the Fold game in collaboration with Niantic, the company behind the popular ‘Pokémon Go’. According to Fold, it is a game that is based on the same model of ‘Pokémon Go’, although based on the “metaphor of Bitcoin mining”. Instead of catching Pokémon, we will find different cubes and, when hitting them, they will give us prizes in the form of small pieces of Bitcoin.

The game uses Niantic’s real-world mapping technology and combines it with Fold’s features to earn Bitcoin rewards. It is in beta for iOS and Android although, for the moment, it cannot be downloaded in Spain.

'Pokémon GO' wasn't dead, it was generating $ 5 billion in revenue in its first five years of life

“Anyone can use our app to earn Bitcoin and other rewards by exploring the world around them. It has always been important to us to make participating in the Bitcoin economy easy for anyone, regardless of their education or technical background.” Will Reeves, CEO of Fold.

In this game we will get rewards for approximately 1/20 Satoshis (SATS), whose price at the time we write this article is $ 0.000568 dollars, according to CoinMarketCap.

These blocks to “mine” are generated every 10 minutes at a distance of between 1 and 15 meters, so that in a good time playing, on paper, you can get a good amount of Satoshis. For future phases of the game, the inclusion of a multiplayer system in the style of Geocaching, to find hidden rewards.

The objective of the game according to its creators is “make cryptocurrencies more accessible” and that we can “feel like real” by creating an Augmented Reality scenario in which we can interact with it.

The game is in development at the moment and in beta phase, and the countries in which it is implemented will remain to be seen. However, it is a close approximation to what games like Axie Infinity already allow: earning virtual rewards while we play.
