The Professor of Economics Emilio Ontiveros (Ciudad Real, 1948) has died this Monday at the age of 74 in the city of Madrid, has advanced the Cadena Ser, one of the communication media where he collaborated in his informative facet. Founder and President of Afi (International Financial Analysts)He has written many books. The last one, ‘Excesses. Threats to global prosperity’ (Planeta, 2019).
Ontiveros, born in 1948, was Emeritus Professor of Economics at the Autonomous University of Madrid. In the field of teaching, he was a professor at the University of Zaragoza, at the Catholic Institute of Business Administration and Management (ICADE) and at the Autonomous University of Madrid, where he was vice-rector for two periods between 1982 and 1987, and president of the Social Council of the University of Castilla La Mancha (2015-2019)
In 1987, he founded Analistas Financieros Internacionales (Afi), a firm dedicated to consulting and independent training focused on the economy, finance and technology, with more than 200 professionals today. Ontiveros has been the president of the company until his death.
Among his works, he signed ‘The rescue’, with Ignacio Escolar, director of elDiario.es (Editorial Aguilar, 2013); ‘The intelligent saver’ (with David Cano. Espasa, 2014); He participated in works by international economists, such as the prologue to Thomas Piketty’s book ‘Capital of the 21st Century’ (Editorial RBA, 2015), and his latest book was ‘Excesses. Threats to global prosperity’ (Planeta, 2019).
He directed the Economics collection of H.Blume Ediciones and was director of the Economists Magazine (Colegio Economistas Madrid) from its foundation in 1983 until December 2011, among other publications.
He was appointed in July 2020 as a member of the Economic Affairs Advisory Council of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, led by Nadia Calviño.
Likewise, in his activities in the private company he was a director of Mutua Madrileña, Torreal and Iberdrola Spain; the latter from 2014 to 2022.
From the economic world, several professionals have celebrated the figure of Ontiveros and his role as “professor” in this area of knowledge at the national level.
