Elon Musk closes the purchase of Twitter and fires four of its top managers


Billionaire Elon Musk has made his debut as the new owner of Twitter by firing four of his top managers. Among those dismissed would be the CEO, Parag Agrawal, as published by US media on Thursday.

The other three fired executives are Twitter CFO Ned Segal; Chief Legal and Policy Officer Vijaya Gadde; and the firm’s lead attorney, Sean Edgett. The New York Times, The Washington Post and CNN cite anonymous sources familiar with the situation at the company.

According to what was published, at least one of these executives had to be escorted by members of security outside Twitter’s headquarters in San Francisco (California, USA). Musk has launched a message through the asocial network ensuring that “the bird [en referencia al símbolo de Twitter] has been released”.

A few hours earlier, the billionaire had confirmed that he was going to buy the social network and said he was doing it “for the future of civilization.” There were just over 24 hours left before the expiration of the term that a judge had given him to open a process if the purchase was not formalized.

Musk then issued a message on the social network itself for “advertisers” on Twitter in which he wanted to explain the reasons that led him to buy the network, assuring that “it is important for the future of civilization to have a common digital square where you can A wide spectrum of beliefs can be debated in a healthy way.

In addition, the owner of Tesla and SpaceX took the opportunity to announce that advertising will have a relevant place in the social network from now on.

Musk acknowledged in his message that social networks risk increasing the polarization of public opinion between the extreme right and the extreme left, something that traditional media have also fallen into. He, he assures, wants to contribute to overcoming this risk “to help Humanity” and “not to make money”.

The tycoon says that according to his vision, Twitter “cannot become a hell free for all, where anything can be said without consequences” but must “respect the laws.” The platform must become “a warm and welcoming place for everyone, where everyone can choose their desired experience according to their preferences.”

Regarding advertising on Twitter, Musk has assured that the ads “if well understood, can entertain, please and inform” the user. “Fundamentally, Twitter aspires to become the most respected advertising platform in the world that will strengthen your brands and grow your business. Let’s build something extraordinary together.”
