Elon Musk makes fun of band Gorillaz and NFTs

Billionaire Elon Musk made a joke of the NFT market on his Twitter, showing an image of the band Gorillaz.

This band is known for being virtual, with a different rock sound. In the band’s video clips, it is common for the identity of monkeys with musical instruments to appear, thus representing the members of this famous band.

The funny thing about all this is that the NFTs market, which involves digital arts, images, music and videos, among other possibilities, ended up attracting attention in recent months, ending up being chosen the word of the year by a dictionary.

This phenomenon, however, does not please everyone in the market.

Elon Musk makes fun of NFTs

Twitter’s Elon Musk is an eccentric figure who makes jokes about what interests him. In a joke made by the billionaire last November 2021, more than 60 cryptocurrencies were created on the market, showing that his public speaking has a power to create questionable projects as well.

Anyway, this Thursday (30) he once again made a joke with the NFT market, which he still hadn’t talked about very publicly. While sharing the cover of a CD by the band Gorillaz, Elon Musk wrote “It’s not possible, NFTs made an album?“.

In other words, Musk’s joke is that the band Gorillaz, created in 1998, could be an NFT capable of producing a musical album, clearly playing with this market and perhaps even leaving a criticism of the sector, in which he was not involved.

Remember that it is common for Elon Musk to publish memes and one of them even became an NFT recently, sold for millions on the market.

Several monkey NFTs have already been created

The band Gorillaz marked a generation of music, bringing the industry a new listening and visual experience as the band members were all anonymous, nicknamed Murdoc, 2-D, Noodle and Russell. This band drew a lot of attention, and even though some of its members have already revealed themselves, they are still successful among fans.

But this presence of gorillas and monkeys also ended up attracting the interest of the cryptocurrency market, which saw the emergence of several NFT projects linked to monkeys. On the Ethereum network, for example, the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection is the most famous of all, with items worth millions of dollars and is expected to launch a game in 2022.

Another collection that became famous involving monkeys was Monkey Kingdom, a project supported by DJ Steve Aoki and which has seen some fans get hacked in recent days. This project was created on the Solana network and attracted a lot of attention from the network’s community.

On the Binance Smart Chain network, an NFT project with monkeys is BlockApeScissors, a new project that did not attract attention like the others. Anyway, it shows that Elon Musk’s joke with NFTs makes some sense, with many projects being created and linked to primates, just as the band Gorillaz has done in the past.
