Facebook loses daily users for the first time in its history | Digital Trends Spanish

Bad times for Mark Zuckerberg and the considered mother of all social networks.

According to Mashable, Meta (the parent company that encompasses Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus) revealed poor numbers on its earnings report for the fourth quarter of 2021. And it is that daily active users on Facebook fell for the first time in Facebook history during the last quarters of last year.

The fall was slight, from 1,930 million to 1,929 million, but it marks a before and after in the trajectory of the social network that, despite being involved in multiple scandals, had never suffered even the slightest loss of users.

According to the report, most of the users who stopped using the platform are in what Meta calls “Rest of the world”, which basically means Latin America and Africa.

At the moment it is too early to know how this drop in the number of users has affected it in economic terms, and it is also not possible to predict whether the trend will continue in the coming months.

What it is possible to perceive is the boredom suffered by users of the platform after years of scandals related to their personal data and misinformation on issues as serious as the coronavirus pandemic.

The last and most notorious scandal of the social network was Facebook Files, a set of reports of the American newspaper Wall Street Journal in which several questionable practices of the most used social network in the world were revealed.
