FDA investigates Lucky Charms cereal after reports of poisoning | Digital Trends Spanish

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported that it is investigating the popular Lucky Charms cereal after dozens of customers have reported discomfort after consuming it.

According to an NBC News publication, nearly 1,000 Americans have reported gastrointestinal symptoms since April that could be related to the cereal. This figure could reach 3,000 cases if the reports since the end of last year are counted.

According to the agency, most cases report gastrointestinal problems after eating the cereal, such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. “The FDA takes seriously any report of possible adulteration of a food that may also cause illness or injury,” the FDA said in a statement.

For its part, the General Mills company, responsible for the cereal, acknowledged being aware of the reports and that it takes them seriously. However, the company assured that its own investigation found no evidence of disease associated with the consumption of Lucky Charms.

“Food safety is our top priority. We take consumer concerns communicated through a third-party website very seriously,” a General Mills spokeswoman said.

Finally, the company invites any consumer who reports any type of discomfort associated with Lucky Charms, to report it directly to the company using any of the channels provided for it.

The FDA, for its part, added that it is investigating other reports associated with the cereal submitted to the agency’s Adverse Event Reporting System, and that it could reach 100 registered cases this year alone.
