Firefighters, soldiers and volunteers fight in Extremadura against the fire in Las Hurdes and Monfragüe

The fire does not let up in Extremadura, despite the hundreds of firefighters, soldiers and volunteers who have been fighting for several days against the advance of the flames in Las Hurdes and since Thursday afternoon also in the Monfragüe National Park, where this At dawn they had to evacuate the residents of Casas de Miravete.

The Junta de Extremadura has reported that the “unfavorable evolution” of both fires continues and level 2 of danger remains active.

Thursday’s day began with some optimism among those responsible for extinguishing the fire that has burned the Las Hurdes region of Cáceres since Monday, but the reactivation of a focus in a “critical area” forced the preventive eviction of the Las Mestas farmhouse , belonging to the municipality of Ladrillas. The night has been complicated for a 180-strong operation that has been working in this area due to high temperatures and wind.

On the other hand, the Junta de Extremadura requested on Thursday afternoon the collaboration of the Government media and the Military Emergency Unit (UME) to put out the Casas de Miravete fire, which from the first moment advanced with virulence threatening the Monfragüe National Park.

The Amigos de Monfragüe association reported late on Thursday that the flames had already entered the limits of the park and that “with complete certainty, the fire has already burned several black vulture nests, one of the jewels of the National Park”

“The most important and emblematic place in Extremadura and the most representative natural space of the most important Mediterranean forest and scrub on the planet is in serious danger right now”, according to the president of this association.
