Five prison officials have been arrested in an anti-drug macrooperation at the Navalcarnero prison in Madrid. In total, 20 detainees, thirteen of them are inmates and family members, as reported by Cadena SER this Wednesday.
The Civil Guard has been investigating drug trafficking in prison for months, especially during the pandemic, due to the suspension of communications, which led Prisons to detect that the drug was still in circulation, although the prisoners had no contact with the outside. The accused officials would introduce and move the drug, especially hashish, inside the prison in exchange for some type of financial compensation, according to the proceedings. One of these state workers is retired, as reported by the SER.
The investigation remains open and further arrests are not ruled out.
