Ford net profit in 2021 reaches 17,910 million dollars


  • The firm leaves behind the almost 1,300 million in losses of 2020 pushed by its good results in North America

Ford reported this Thursday a net profit of 17,910 million dollars in 2021, after registering 1,276 million in losses the previous year, despite production problems caused by the shortage of chips. In the last quarter of 2021, the manufacturer earned 12.3 billion dollars.

Ford noted that its revenue increased to 136,341 million dollars in the past year, 7.23% more than in 2020: 126,150 million corresponded to automobile activities; 10,073 million to Ford Credit, the financial arm of the company, and 118 million to the Mobility unit. Adjusted earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) amounted to $10 billion. Ford forecasts 2022 Adjusted EBIT to be between $11.5 billion and $12.5 billion, an increase of 15% to 25%.

The increase in profits in 2021 was due to the good results that Ford achieved in North America, where its EBIT reached 7,377 million dollars, 98.8% more than a year ago. Despite the fact that in South America, Europe and China Ford registered losses, its results improved substantially compared to 2020.

In South America, Ford lost $121 million, an improvement on the $450 million lost in 2020; while in Europe the losses amounted to 154 million dollars, compared to 851 million dollars in 2020. In China, the losses were 327 million dollars, 172 million less than the previous year. Finally, in the rest of the world, included in the International Markets Group, EBIT stood at 622 million dollars.

Ford said its global sales in 2021 fell 6% to 3.94 million vehicles.
