Four towns evicted by the fire in the Sierra de la Culebra, which has advanced overnight

Four towns in Zamora have been evicted due to the fire in the Sierra de la Culebra, which affects at least 900 hectares: Cabañas de Aliste (town of Riofrío de Aliste, municipality of 257 inhabitants), Torres de Aliste, Pobladura de Aliste and the Mahide town. These three belong to the municipality of Mahíde, which has 298 inhabitants, although not all the villages of Mahíde have been evicted.

As reported by the Junta de Castilla y León, tonight has been “hard” and “intense work” for the firefighting teams and the fire continues at level 2 of danger since yesterday. The wind, the dry storm and the heat have favored the advance of the fire during the night.

Despite the heat wave, Castilla y León has not activated the high risk in the Community, as it is automatically activated in July, August and September. This means that not all the firefighting troops have been mobilized in the two regions.

The device has had to face strong gusts of wind of up to 40 kilometers per hour, in addition to temperatures that exceed 40 degrees. Likewise, the fire front extends through several foci, originally having up to eleven. As reported by the regional Executive, the lightning caused these first flames between the terms of Ferreras de Arriba, Ferreras de Abajo, Villardeciervos, Sarracín de Aliste between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday night.
