Frenchman Martial on loan to Sevilla until the end of the season

Sevilla announced on Tuesday the arrival of French striker Anthony Martial, on loan until the end of the season from Manchester United.

“Sevilla FC and Manchester United have reached an agreement for Anthony Martial to become a new red and white player, on loan, until June 30 of this course,” the Andalusian entity announced in a statement.

“The 26-year-old attacker made 269 appearances in a Manchester United shirt, scoring a total of 79 goals in all competitions since his arrival at the club in the summer of 2015. In this time, Martial helped the team win the FA Cup , the League Cup and the Europa League”, added the English team.

The French international comes to reinforce the attack from Seville, becoming Sevilla’s second winter signing after the arrival of Mexican Jesús Manuel Corona ‘Tecatito’.

After 22 games played in the Spanish championship, Sevilla is second with 46 points and seems to be the only team that can challenge Real Madrid for the title (leader with 50 units).

According to the Spanish press, Sevilla will take over part of the player’s important record, who has agreed to lower his salary to land in the Seville team.

The arrival of Martial is a great reinforcement for a squad that in recent times has been penalized by injuries such as that of its scorer Youssef En-Nesyri (who is now playing in the African Cup of Nations), as well as by the positive by Covid-19.

The Frenchman arrives as a promising gift for the Sevilla club, which turned 132 this Tuesday.

Martial, who arrived at United in 2015, was having little prominence at his club this season, in which he has only appeared in eleven games and scored a goal.

“He is a great player, one of the best attackers in the Premier League, but we have other players in his place. It is his wish to leave,” United manager Ralf Rangnick said on Saturday.

The player had already made it clear to his coach that he wanted to leave and he accused the attacker ten days ago of refusing to join the team for the Premier League match against Aston Villa (2-2).

Martial strongly denied these accusations.

Since then, both coach and player have redirected the situation, but without Martial backing down on his desire to leave the English team.

The Frenchman has suffered a lot from the arrival of the Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, who has relegated him to the bench.

A French international, Martial was a substitute in both games of the League of Nations final four won by Les Bleus in October and was not called up for the two World Cup qualifiers played by the French in November.

With Qatar-2022 at the end of the year, Martial is looking for minutes that allow him to vindicate himself ahead of the World Cup.
