Design, display and durability

Seen from the front, you will not see differences in the design of the Galaxy A52 and the Galaxy A51, as they both feature screens of the same size and the selfie camera at the top center of the panel.

However, seen from the rear, you will notice a notable contrast. In the case of the Galaxy A52, the camera module protrudes from the chassis and is also noticeable larger in relation to the entire back cover, while in the Galaxy A51, which integrates the same four lenses as the Galaxy A52, you will see that the bump is slightly less.

Another notable difference is that the back cover of the Galaxy A52 sports a matte plastic finish, while that of the Galaxy A51 is shiny and ends up getting stained with fingerprints.

In the case of screens, both phones are the same size and offer the same resolution and imaging technology.

Where there is a substantial difference is in durability. The Galaxy A52 integrates IP67 certification, which makes the phone able to withstand splashes or even be under the water tap without fear of damaging its components. You won’t be able to submerge it and use it underwater, but protection counts. The Galaxy A51, on the other hand, does not have any IP protection and is not waterproof either.

Performance, battery life and charging

Invariably and on the condition that the latest model will always have a more powerful processor, the Galaxy A52 offers superior performance to the Galaxy A51 in this item. However, the difference in performance is not enormous and will hardly be noticeable in very specific situations, such as when playing graphically demanding video games such as Call of Duty Mobile or Fortnite. In addition, some carriers in the United States such as Verizon and T-Mobile sell the version of the Galaxy A52 with 6 GB of RAM (other models have 4 GB of RAM), so the phone will not slow down by having dozens of apps open.

The most noticeable changes are in battery performance. While the Galaxy A51 incorporates a 4,000 mAh, the Galaxy A52 equips a 4,500 mAh. That extra pull translates into the possibility of ending the day with some charge, and in the case of less demanding users, the possibility of even reaching a second day of battery use.

Regarding autonomy, another factor that stands out in the case of the Galaxy A52 is that it incorporates 25W fast charging, which according to Samsung, allows the battery to charge 50 percent in just 30 minutes. In contrast, the Galaxy A51 incorporates 15W fast charging, so that the Galaxy A52 not only has a higher capacity battery, but also a higher charging speed.

Both the Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A51 feature a four-lens camera system: a macro, a depth, a panoramic, and a main lens. Although at the specifications level only in the main camera there is an improvement in the number of megapixels that can be captured (64 in the Galaxy A52 and 48 in the Galaxy A51), the truth is that the results between both cameras go beyond that. .

In general, the photos taken by the Galaxy A52 show more natural colors, while those of the Galaxy A51 are more saturated. In some cases, this will make some images look attractive to the eye (think of a colorful background), but in the case of nature photography, the result will look artificial. Another aspect to note is that in natural light conditions where the stage is quite bright, the Galaxy A51 will display darker photos compared to the Galaxy A52, which offers more balanced colors.

While they both have night mode, the Galaxy A52’s is noticeably more accurate. The same goes for video recording, where the latest phone has a much faster focus than the Galaxy A51.

Software and updates

There is practically no difference from the software on the Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A51. While the Galaxy A51 hit the market with Android 10, chances are that if you buy it, you will get the update to Android 11 with One UI 3.1, the latest version of Samsung’s customization layer.

Regarding the update to Android 12, both the Galaxy A52 and the Galaxy A51 will receive the new version of the mobile operating system. Just keep in mind that the Galaxy A51 will not update to Android 13, while the Galaxy A52 will.

Special features

Our contender for the best 5G cell phone in the mid-range is the Galaxy A52, and at a price below $ 500, Samsung offers a smartphone loaded with notable features. However, there is a model of the Galaxy A51 that also includes 5G and that Samsung at a discount if you pay a used phoneSo if you have both models on the table, we can’t consider 5G a key differentiator.

The other feature that could make some difference is that the screen of the Galaxy A52 has a 90Hz refresh rate, while that of the Galaxy A51 is 60Hz. This difference will make the transition between images feel smoother on the Galaxy A52, although to tell the truth, we think it will not make much difference to the majority of users.

Price and availability

At the line price on Samsung’s page, both the Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A51 are priced at $ 499. However, both phones can be purchased below that figure.

On the Samsung site, the Galaxy A52 can be purchased for $ 374.99 by making a cell phone exchange (delivering a used phone on account of the final price). On pages like Amazon too there are offers starting at $ 449 for the model with 128 GB of storage and 6 GB of RAM.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy A51 5G has exactly the same price as the Galaxy A52 on Samsung’s page. For obvious reasons, we suggest that you not purchase the phone there. Instead, on Amazon you can find it by prices ranging between $ 250 and $ 399 dollars.

Winner: Galaxy A52

For features like a higher capacity battery with faster charging, as well as the processor that will invariably perform better, we prefer the Galaxy A52. However, if you find a discount for the Galaxy A51 5G that represents a considerable saving (we think of an offer of $ 299 dollars for the Galaxy A51 5G), our recommendation is to go for the cheapest phone, and that is for a differential of $ 150 dollars you get a device with attractive features that guarantees optimal durability for at least two years.
