Several members of the film industry have referred to the tragedy that occurred on the film set of Rust, after Alec Baldwin accidentally killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Now it was George Clooney’s turn. The director, actor and screenwriter spoke about the tragic event on the podcast WTF with Marc Maron.
In space, Clooney referred to the accident as “crazy” and “infuriating.”
“I’ve been on sets for 40 years and the person who hands you the gun, the person responsible for the gun, is someone from the props or the gunsmith. Period ”, said the actor.
“Every time they hand me a gun on set, I look at it, open it, show it to the person I’m pointing at, show it to the team, and when I’m done, I return it to the armory.”
In this way, Clooney points to the lack of security on the set where the film was filmed, which, according to investigators, has been one of the main causes of the accident.
“I mean every time they hand me a six-round pistol I point it at the ground and pull the trigger six times,” he added.
The actor also questioned the fact that the producers wanted to save money on hiring skilled gun handlers. “A person of 24 years probably should not, with that little experience, be in charge of a weapons department,” he said in relation to gunsmith Hannah Gutiérrez-Reed.
“I’ve never heard the term cold pistol. I never heard that term. Literally. They are talking about things I have never heard of. It’s just infuriating, “he concluded.
